Meals on Wheels at the Milwaukie Center
The Milwaukie Center’s Nutrition Program, operated by NCPRD, has provided Meals on Wheels to community members in north Clackamas County for the last 40 years. Over 55,000 meals are served each year to homebound older adults and people with disabilities. Nutritious meals are made fresh daily and delivered directly to homes by dedicated volunteers – rain or shine.
Meals on Wheels isn’t just about nutrition; this program is also about connecting with the most vulnerable members of our community. For some, this is the only human contact they have each day.
Due to COVID-19, the need for Meals On Wheels is greater than ever and the number of recipients has increased by 50 percent. At the same time, fundraising opportunities crucial to the operation of the program have been canceled leaving a significant gap in funding. Bob’s Red Mill has generously offered to match donations up to $10,000 through the end of June. Any contribution you make has double the impact!
The program’s success is dependent on the community’s support. Although federal funding covers a portion of meal costs, more than half must be raised through donations, fundraisers and the generosity of community partners. Milwaukie Center Meals on Wheels is an independently run program and gets no funding from the Meals on Wheels People, which only services Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties. Interested in helping out?
Thank you to our community partners and volunteers who make this program possible!
