Cheerleading FAQs
I am interested in being a volunteer coach. What is required?
Thank you! This program would not be possible without our volunteer coaches. Those interested in volunteering to be a Cheer coach can pick up the required paperwork at the mandatory orientation or at the North Clackamas Aquatic Park.
The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District has several requirements for people to serve as volunteer coaches.
1. The coach must fill out our background check form and pass a national background check
2. Complete an online training/certification with the National Youth Sports Coaches Association
3. Attend a mandatory coaches meeting on Tuesday, December 13
The time commitment consists of:
One hour-long practice per week, the week of January 9 – the week of March 5.
**Coaches have the opportunity to select the practice time that works best for them.
One hour-long game each Saturday, January 28 – March 10.
Volunteer coaches also have the opportunity to be matched with an assistant or co-coach –we can either select another coach to put you with, or if you know someone who you’d like to be paired with, you can request to be with them.
How can I get my child on a certain coach/friend’s team?
We allow players to request either a coach or another player on the registration form and the recreation staff does their very best to accommodate all requests. However, because of the volume of requests, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be honored.
My child and I have other commitments during the week and I can only take them to practice on Thursday. Can I request a specific day for practices?
The volunteer coaches select the day and time of the practice and we do not organize teams based on day/time requests. If the practice day/time does not work for your schedule, we are happy to provide a full refund.
I signed my child up for Cheerleading. When do I find out what time/day my child’s practice will be?
Coaches will contact you after December 15 with practice and game schedule information. If you have not heard from a coach by December 27, please contact the Parks and Recreation Office: 503.794.8080 or recreation@clackamas.us.
My child is in kindergarten. Can I sign them up?
Due to space/time limitations, as well as the number of players in the program, we cannot take kindergartners in the Mini Hooper program.
Does my child need to attend the orientation?
No, this orientation is to share information with the parents of the participants.
For more information, contact the Recreation Program office at recreation@clackamas.us
