Steel Mountain History

North Clackamas Aquatic Park opened in 1994 and one of the first guards to join the staff was Justin Steel. Justin worked for the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District for 11 years while pursuing his undergraduate and law degrees. During Justin’s years of service he assisted in countless hours of training, instruction, facility maintenance work and public service videos regarding safety. An avid surfer, Justin believed the water to be a therapeutic environment for individuals of any age or skill level to enjoy. After Justin’s untimely passing, the Steel family approached the Aquatic Park in 2007 with a generous donation to aide in the expansion of the features located in the facility. Due to the family’s contributions, the Aquatic Park was able to purchase and install the rock wall. With the wall being made out of steel and supported by the family with that very name, it became an obvious choice for the feature’s name. Since that time, Steel Mountain has become an exciting part of North Clackamas Aquatic Park.
