Meals on Wheels at the Milwaukie Community Center

The Milwaukie Community Center’s Nutrition Program, operated by NCPRD, has provided Meals on Wheels to community members in north Clackamas County for the last 40 years. Up to 75,000 meals are served each year to homebound older adults and people with disabilities. Nutritious meals are made fresh daily and delivered directly to homes by dedicated volunteers – rain or shine. Meals on Wheels isn’t just about nutrition; this program is also about connecting with the most vulnerable members of our community.

COVID-19 IMPACT
Due to COVID-19, the need for Meals On Wheels is greater than ever and the number of recipients has increased dramatically. NCPRD’s staff and a team of generous volunteers adapted to the new reality by introducing safe, tightly-regulated operations and increasing meal preparation and delivery from 180 to 250 meals a day.

GET INVOLVED
The program’s success is dependent on the community’s support. Although federal funding covers a portion of meal costs, more than half must be raised through donations, fundraisers and the generosity of community partners. Every dollar counts in our efforts to keep this program financially viable and contributions of any size are appreciated.
✔ $3.00 helps pay for one meal (per person)
✔ $15.00 helps pays for meals for one week (per person)

The Milwaukie Center’s Meals on Wheels program doesn’t receive any funding from the region-wide Meals on Wheels People, so direct donations are needed to support residents in North Clackamas. There are several ways to donate.

During the month of March you can participate in March for Meals, a month-long campaign promoting donations throughout the community with support from area businesses. If you are part of a company that would like to get involved, please contact the Meals on Wheels office at 503-794-8035.

Just as critical as the funding of the program, are the volunteers that make it possible. The Milwaukie Center’s Nutrition Program is fortunate to include hundreds of volunteers with jobs ranging from delivery drivers to kitchen helpers to dining room servers. New volunteers are always needed and appreciated – whether volunteering daily, weekly or just for special fundraisers and events.

If you’d like to volunteer, please contact the Meals on Wheels office at 503-794-8035.

To see if you or someone you know may qualify to receive Meals on Wheels, call the Nutrition Program at 503-794-8035.

Thank you to our community partners and volunteers who make this program possible!
